DM Active Sport
DM Active Sport provides a novel approach to the management of sports injuries, with its research driven development of customised dynamic elastomeric fabric orthoses (DEFOs). The establishment of DM Active Sport has been driven by the current paucity of evidence based sports orthoses. We have worked to address this very real need by developing DEFO's that are underpinned by both clinical and field based research.
The range of DEFO's being developed are aimed primarily at the professional athlete, are specific to the individual, permit full range of movement, and are designed to enhance performance by facilitating the intended posture to underpin the execution of technical skills. The latter is achieved by enhancing proprioceptive input, increasing stability, providing compression to improve force closure, and thus aid return to sport.
The key strength of these DEFOs is that they are customised; their quality being assured by their measurements being undertaken by a clinical team of physiotherapists and orthotists who are trained in this specialism.
The first product to be launched, DIFCAS (dynamic integrated force closure stability) Shorts, stand on their own in the International marketplace, in that they are underpinned by two years of sports physiotherapy based research and field testing, and are developed using cutting edge CAD CAM technology. They have been developed to aid in the management of athletic lumbopelvic / groin injuries, and provide a dynamic, and athlete specific approach which avoids the poorly fitting problems of the more generic brands on the market. With athletic testing, both a reduction in pain ratings and improvement in force production have been established.
Development is currently underway for a customised shoulder DEFO, designed to aid in the management of a range of shoulder injuries, particularly in contact sports like rugby union.
